Meet the Atlantean Foundation
The Atlantean Foundation is an eccentrically flamboyant but somewhat secretive society composed of scholars, explorers, scientists, and other adventurous types. While the primary goal of the Foundation as stated in their charter is the “location and rediscovery of the knowledge and wonders of the fabled lost city of Atlantis”; they are in fact an eclectic and far reaching organization who travels the globe in search of all manner of unexplained mysteries and daring adventures. Some speculate that the fantastical tales of authors such as Jules Verne, Mary Shelley, and H.G. Wells are merely retellings of actual exploits of members of this august Foundation as recounted to the authors at Atlantean social gatherings.

Screening of The Time Machine (1960)
A favorite of most Steampunks, this film based on H.G. Well’s landmark novel. In addition, this film has given Steampunks the ability to explain every anachronistic costume and accessory quirk: we’re time travelers! Therefore, historical accuracy is not required. – Hosted by Hal Astell

Screening of Wild, Wild West (1999) – PG-13
Although many of us laugh about this film being considered the most recognizable Steampunk film, it is definitely a love/hate relationship. Take another turn with your fellow Steampunks as we follow the adventures of Captain James West, US Marshal Artemus Gordon, and the notorious Dr. Arliss Loveless.

Screening of League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (2003) – PG-13
One of the best and worst examples of modern Steampunk, complete with its own Captain Nemo, Allan Quatermain, Mina Harker, Dr. Jeckyll/Mr. Hyde, and Dorian Gray. Although this film is a significant deviation from the original graphic novel, these legendary characters from Victorian literature do a fairly decent job of recreating the Victorian aesthetic.

Scott Brodeen's enthusiasm for Disney’s Nautilus from 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea started with a young boy at Disneyland standing in the “temporary” 20,000 Leagues Exhibition that included partially built sets and many of the props used in the movie. Skip 15+ years of collecting antique scientific equipment or rooting around in aircraft surplus yards and get the parts you need to create yesterday's future for a good cause.
